[First Impressions] Beautycounter

B-E-A-utycounter. Does anyone else still use that iconic line to spell variations of the word “beautiful” correctly?

Recently, I invested in some Beautycounter products, and today I thought I would share a little more about the company and some of my first impressions of the products that I purchased!

Company Background

First, lets start off with a little bit about the company and what makes it stand out.

The company was founded by a woman named Gregg, who’s mission is “to get safer products into the hands of everyone.”

She noticed that there is a very serious problem in the United States, and I will summarize it in this one eye-opening fact, but there is so much more, I encourage you to do your own research, you will be amazed:

Over the past two decades, the European Union has banned more than 1,300 chemicals in the product formulas of personal care products and restricted the levels of over 250 more in such products. The United States has only partially banned 11 to date.

Beautycounter is committed to providing healthier alternatives for the products that we put on our skin every single day by eliminating more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals in their products (see their “Never List”).

Their products are available for purchase online, and they have recently released a limited product line for sale at Target in stores and online!

First Impressions:

Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer $45

The first thing I picked out was the tinted moisturizer in shade “No. 2.” I was drawn to this product because it has SPF 20 and provides lightweight and sheer coverage.

I have never been a fan of heavy face makeup. I would usually stick to powders because I hate the feeling of a liquid foundation sitting on top of my skin. The problem with powders is that I have very oily skin, so by the middle of the day my forehead becomes streaky, and that is just not a good look.

A few months ago, I tested out a bb cream from The Body Shop and really liked how it looked and felt on my skin all day, so I thought I would try out Beautycounter’s equivalent.

Let me tell you, I was not disappointed! Since it is a tinted moisturizer, I feel like it really sinks into my skin and provides nice and even coverage. It stays in place all day and my skin never gets too oily while I’m wearing it, even without setting powder!

Another pro: the packaging is magnificent! I love the little pump on the tube. It makes it so easy to get the right amount of product out without getting everywhere.

The product is also very buildable,  so if you need a little extra coverage it is really easy to obtain that look even with this sheer coverage formula.

TouchUp Skin Concealer Pen $32

To go along with the Dew Skin, I got the concealer pen in “Light.”

The formula definitely provides extra coverage for under eye circles and any blemishes you need hidden.

Again, I love the packaging. There is a little pump on the bottom that pumps the product into a fine brush at the top. You can then brush the product on exactly where you want it and then blend it out with your finger, beauty blender or another brush.

The pen is amazing for brightening up my under eyes, but I think it is a little too bright to use on any blemishes (for my skin tone), so keep that in mind if you are looking into this product for yourself!

Lengthening mascara $29

This is the product that I was most excited to try! I have long been in a desperate search to find a good quality mascara and have tried a lot of duds along the way. Most recently, I tried a fruit-based mascara from 100% Pure and wanted so badly to love it, but the applicator brush was just not for me (even though I really loved their formula!).

This may be my favorite mascara to date! The formula is dark, long lasting, and really does wonders to lengthen my eyelashes. The wand is small and easy to apply to both the upper lashes and lower lashes without getting all over your eye lids. The formula doesn’t run or smudge and it doesn’t get dry or flaky by the end of the day.

I will tell you this, if you invest in this mascara, you will also want to invest in some oil-based makeup remover (or coconut oil!).

Oh, and you better believe I put a couple drops of lavender essential oil in there for extra lash growth power!

Lip Sheer $30

Lastly, I thought I would pick up a lip product, just to get the full experience. I choose a pretty fall shade called “Currant.”

I was pleasantly surprised by this product. The term “sheer” made me a bit nervous that it would not provide much color at all, but that was not the case.  The color was amazingly buildable and ultra moisturizing. It definitely is not a lip stick, but more like a tinted, dewey chapstick.

The color isn’t very long lasting, so I carry the tube with me and reapply after eating and drinking, or just periodically throughout the day, but I almost prefer it that way. I feel like lipsticks tend to get kind of gross and crumbly when they have been on too long.

I’m really excited to pick up a couple more products to try out at my Beautycounter Facebook party, like the Lip Gloss (in Fig because Fall GOALS) and the Color Pinch Cream Blusher!

Until then, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and a great week ahead!
